Go Compare ads’ Wynne Evans sings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opening

Fans were both amused and bemused by Spurs fan Evans’ appearance.

Many fans watching the opening ceremony of Spurs’ new stadium noticed a remarkable similarity between the opera star singing Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur and the man from the Go Compare adverts.

There was a reason for that – it was indeed Wynne Evans, Welsh opera singer and financial services comparison website champion, performing on the new turf.

Evans is a Spurs fan and clearly enjoyed walking out into the new ground, describing it on Twitter as “the most amazing experience” and “an honour”.

For fans watching at home, his appearance added to the entertainment of the spectacle.

However, some were less impressed.

Others noted that there are other celebrity Spurs fans who could have taken the gig.

Singer-songwriter Adele had celebrated the opening of the new stadium earlier in the day.

She shared a photo of herself in front of a Tottenham scarf to Instagram with the caption “#COYS” or “Come On You Spurs”.

However, unimpressed fans did not stop Evans enjoying himself.

He proved a good luck charm too, as Spurs went on to win their first Premier League game at the new ground, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 as Son Heung-min scored first before Christian Eriksen bagged another late on.
