Peter Adams ready to get play-off clash started

The two teams try again after last week’s scheduled clashes were postponed due to poor weather.

Ipswich await the winners after a brilliant performance saw them knock defending champions and regular league leaders Poole out last weekend. And the Parrys International Wolves will now be looking to build up a healthy lead ahead of Thursday’s second leg in Wiltshire.

Boss Peter Adams said: “Whether you’re at home first or second, the job is the same.

“The aim is obviously to score more points than your opponents over the two legs and that’s all we’ve got to focus on doing.

“There’s supposedly some sort of advantage in having the second leg at home, but historically we’ve been away for that leg when we’ve been successful.

“When we beat Swindon in 2009 and Belle Vue in 2016, both first legs we had at Monmore and wrapped things up at their place. So I don’t think it matters too much – either way we’re in a for a close contest I’m sure.

“We’ve beaten Swindon twice at Monmore already this year in two very close encounters and I feel we’ve ridden well enough at The Abbey to do a job on them there too.

“They have got a strong finish with the way they line-up though and we’re going to need to be at our best of course.”

It’s been a terrific effort from the Parrys International Wolves just to get into the top four positions after a blip in form saw their hopes fade.

But as key riders such as Jacob Thorssell and Nick Morris gained extra bike time following injuries which kept them out of the first couple of months of the season, Wolves began to click.

They went on a stunning run to register six wins in eight meetings to build plenty of momentum and confidence and Adams says that could be important during the business end of the campaign.

“It will be a while since we last raced at home, but we know what we’re capable of around our home track. Chris (Van Straaten – promoter) and I feel very vindicated with the decisions we made when we had to make them earlier on in the season,” he said.

“We stuck to our word and brought Jacob in for Scott (Nicholls) when he was ready, we stuck with our line-up and signed Dougy (Ryan Douglas) when Ashley Morris got injured down at reserve.

“When you consider we spent the best part of a third of a season without two of our best riders, and then the next third waiting for them to kind of get up to speed, then our strength in the end was what got us over the line.

“So I think our decisions along the way have been proved to be correct – but they’ll only be absolutely correct if we can parade the trophy in a couple of weeks’ time.”
