CTS United march on after victory

A late strike from Adam Strong made it the perfect 10 wins for unbeaten runaway Beacon League outfit CTS United.

The Paycare Development Division front-runners eventually saw off a strong challenge from lowly Penn Rovers to extend their impressive record with a narrow 2-1 triumph, writes Dave McLean.

CTS (Coseley, Tipton, Sedgley) opened up an eight-point advantage at the top after Jay Crumpton gave them a single-goal interval lead.

Battling Rovers levelled through a Harry Ellis penalty in the second period before Strong fired the decisive 80th-minute winner for United.

AFC Sporting Gornal moved back into second spot with an identical success at home to visiting Dudley Rangers.

All three goals came in the first half as Sporting led through George Price. Rangers’ Joe Snipe levelled matters before Reece Davies-Jones hit what proved to be Sporting’s winner.

Wyrley Athletico made it six league wins in eight so far as they ran out worthy 4-0 victors at Cannock United.

On target for third-placed Wyrley, who entertain Sporting this weekend, were the quartet of Liam Beech, Sam Foreman, Will Meredith and Jack Craddock.

Gornal Rangers also picked up three welcome points as they emerged comfortable 4-0 winners against visiting Health Direct. Inflicting the damage in this clash were Liam Hill (two), Tahi Markland and Luke Hemming.

It is all change in the Concentric Property Beacon Championship after reigning champions Claregate Park Rangers tendered their resignation with the club now being run under the second team banner only.

New leaders, after league records were amended and updated minus the games involving Claregate (firsts), are Shere Punjab Wolves by a point from Sedgley and Gornal United and Claregate 2nds.

Just one top tier fixture this week saw Beacon Lions move into the top four after sinking hosts FC Premier U21s 5-3 with Reece Dabbs bagging four, supported by Corey Hill. Replying were Gianni Singh (two) and Kasen Peace.

Claregate 2nds marched through to the last eight of the NDT Midlands Lester Charity Cup after a resounding 7-2 win against Paycare outfit Sedgley Rangers.

Leading the charge for Claregate 2nds, who entertain Dudley Rangers in the quarter-finals, was two goal Marc Habershaw and there were singles from Rodney Williams, Marc Thomas, Kane Lewis, Ashley Brown and Jordan Stevens.

There were two games in the Roger Brindley 030s Cup. Wednesbury Athletic made it three wins so far, while AFC Bradmore got off the mark in Group B.

The Latics emerged 5-1 victors over AFC Codsall with Jake Sedgemore celebrating a hat trick, while Dean Bennett and Aaron Leonard made it a nap hand.

Bradmore moved 2-0 ahead against Boca Seniors with goals from James Thomas and Tom Southern, while Kevin Drake kept things close.
