The Delves Road outfit looked destined for victory when they led 12-6 during the closing stages during Saturday’s semi-final.

But a dramatic finish saw the home side score a try and Walsall’s scrum-half Dean Ainger shown a red card, meaning the game continued with a penalty to the hosts on halfway after the conversion was missed.

That was quickly followed by another penalty from which the home side kicked to win the game.

Newcastle progressed to the final, while Walsall must accept their season is now over.
