Wolves Fans' Verdict v Sheff Utd: A deserved point

Reaction to the Result

Wolves got off to the worst possible start having conceded in the first minute and it was deserved.

They failed to match the energy levels Sheffield United displayed and were second to every ball.

Sheffield United’s style of play is far from flattering but it’s effective and caused Wolves problems.

Too many players had off days, in particular Dendoncker and Jota who looked miles off it but nowhere near as off it as the man dressed in black who bumbled around the pitch.

A well earned point in the end against a team in form.

Man of the Match

Rui Patricio

The unsung hero of Wolves’ season so far. He kept Wolves in the game on a few occasions and made himself big as the Blades went through on goal. He’s really kicked on this season and has been key for Wolves this campaign.

Something to Improve

Too many players had an off day today but still managed to get a point.

I think it speaks volumes in Nuno’s trust of those on the bench having not made a single sub despite the amount of games Wolves have played in a small period. They must strengthen in January.

Reaction to the Result

For an hour we would have gladly taken a draw, but once we scored, even our weary Braga legs looked the most likely to win it.

A sloppy start saw us concede which annoyingly played into their hands. Once we scored though there only looked one winner, so there was some disappointment we did not pinch all three points.

Resilient is the popular description for us, which was very true today.

Man of the Match

Adama Traore continues to be our go-to guy for excitement and expectation which was very evident in the first half.

Jimenez grew into the game, playing well and found our right wingback at the far post with a peach of a cross.

MOTM goes to Patricio though for a save before the break and a couple after it. Going down 0-2 would have been extremely difficult to turn around.

Something to Improve

Tired legs? Umm, maybe tired minds in the first half, but no substitutes!

That surely just highlights our lack of quality alternatives with no potential impact sub available.

Also, we need some creativity - surely Doherty deserves to have his own song!?

Reaction to the Result

A point was fair in the end I thought.

First half we were very slow and Sheffield United were worthy of their lead at half time, however Patrício saved us from it being worse than 1-0.

Second half we stepped up and once we got the equaliser we looked the more likely to win it.

The referee was poor throughout and they should have had a second yellow for one of their players but the referees in this league are incompetent.

On to Wednesday where hopefully we’ll take all three points.

Man of the Match

Kilman, Jimenez, Patricio and Traore were our best players.

Doherty scored but apart from that he wasn’t great, however the news about Afobe probably didn’t do him any favours considering how close they are.

Kilman showed once again he can comfortably play in that left sided role in defence and Patricio saved us big time from going 2-0 down a few times.

Jimenez was pressing well and caused problems throughout, brilliant ball for the equaliser too and Adama was a constant threat, one of our best players by far at the moment.

Something to Improve

We needed to start a lot quicker today, especially against a resilient Sheffield United side as they aren’t a team you want to be 1-0 down to early on.

We did well to equalise but for the majority of the first half we were too slow and our problem at the moment is we will play much better in one of the halves than the other one.

Reaction to the Result

This was a fairly predictable draw. Wolves just back from a Thursday night game against a well organised Sheffield team, who are yet to lose away from home in the Premier League.

We travelled from Portugal straight to Molineux and for the second time this week missed the kick off!

It was no consolation that we did see the first goal, as this went to Sheffield after less than two minutes following a defensive mistake by Wolves.

There was no evidence of physical fatigue from our players, but possibly mental or psychological tiredness.

We did keep good shape, but appeared over run in midfield and therefore found it difficult to control the game in the first half.

Man of the Match

Jimenez was excellent. He was not getting much service when in forward positions, so he came looking for the ball and in doing so covered most of the pitch. He became provider for Doherty’s equaliser.

Shout out to Kilman who made an accomplished league debut. He remained calm and collected throughout and I think he will have a great future.

Something to Improve

As we approach the new Transfer Window, it is quite clear that we need more depth in the squad.

The bench offered little that could change the pattern of play. Neves & Moutinho appeared over run in midfield. Jota was misfiring and Traore, who had the beating of 2,3 or 4 men, wasn’t in the game enough.

That said, we were well on top for the majority of the second half and looked the most likely to win, once we had equalised.

Special mention to the referee, David Coote; he was abysmal. Too many free kicks given the wrong way. He didn’t stop the continual time wasting by Sheffield and bottled the second yellow card, for one of the poorest fouls of the day on Jota, which would have meant a red card with 10 minutes remaining.

The unbeaten run stretches to nine league games, with another tough test on Wednesday.

Reaction to the Result

Another point and another game unbeaten but we started very sluggishly and slowly and were second best for the majority of the first half before slowly dragging ourselves back into the game and deservedly equalising through a trademark Matt Doherty goal.

It just didn't click today but in previous years this is a game we would have lost.

Stats don't tell the full tale every time but this time perhaps so - Wolves with 60% possession, far more corners and shots but Sheff Utd more on target efforts and committing 60% plus of all fouls.

Something to Improve

Its hard to play 27 games by the start of December so no blame can be given to anyone who was below par and has played in most of those games.
