Steve Bull: Wolves masterclass at City can be just the start

A lot has been said about City’s shortcomings on the day by pundits.

But that was not the story. The story was how good Wolves were against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Wolves set up to stop City from playing – to harass them – and they carried out the plan flawlessly.

It is amazing what a week can do in football, isn’t it?

It can knock you down or have you on cloud nine, and, thankfully, we have had the latter after Wolves’ wins at Besiktas and City.

We are playing at the tempo that was there so often last season again.

We didn’t have many chances against Besiktas, but the never-say-die attitude shone through.

Then at City, we were thinking it was the toughest fixture we could’ve asked for, but the lads went there in a positive frame of mind and got exactly what they deserved. To a man, they were fantastic.

Adama Traore’s finishing was top-class as well.

He has had a lot of criticism during his time at the club, with people saying it’s all 100mph with him – too fast.

He took his goals absolutely brilliantly, though. He slotted them away like a true goalscorer. Some might think they were easy finishes. Trust me, they weren’t.

Traore could have fluffed his lines and smacked the ball into the row Z, but he knew where he wanted to put the ball and placed it past the keeper with confidence both times.

Raul Jimenez set each of them up, of course, and I thought he was excellent as well, constantly making himself available.

It was a delight to see him run at the City backline and take on Nicolas Otamendi in the build-up to Traore’s first. It’s something we expect to see from Diogo Jota, not Jimenez.

Willy Boly was rock-solid too. When Ryan Bennett came on for the injured Romain Saiss, the back three were completely in-sync.

It was skipper Conor Coady, Bennett and Boly back to their best as a unit.
