Nuno pleased with Wolves' China success
Nuno Espirito Santo spoke of his satisfaction at Wolves ending the week on a high as he said his players return home to England in better shape than they arrived.
Wolves lifted the Premier League Asia Trophy after impressively overcoming Manchester City in Shanghai, winning 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
Nuno's team withstood an early barrage of attacks and were indebted to Rui Patricio, who took a nasty kick to the face early on but made a number of fine saves and then saved three penalties in the shoot-out.
Nuno said: "It was tough, City is a fantastic team and they started strong and created chances, missed a penalty. It was difficult, they're so good and sharp with so much talent
"After that the team settled, organised better and that moment gave us hope we can stay in the game
"In the second half we were better and had a couple of chances also. The game was more balanced.
"The penalties, Rui did a fantastic job but it can go both ways. I'm happy (to win) but the main objective was to prepare well and travel home healthy.
"We survived and we are happy.
"Rui is OK, he has a big cut, stitches, he'll recover and have a scar but that's part of his job!"
It's been a big week for the club on and off the field, with the players attending a host of events.
Nuno said: "The week went OK, we go back home better than we arrived, this is one of the main ideas.
"We attended a lot of events, the players were patient, they had strong sessions in the morning and then went to events, standing up for a while.
"All the things we accomplished for the future were good.
"It's important we return healthy and we're better to start and improve for what we want, always reaching our high standards."
A number of youngsters played their part in the win, with Dion Sanderson impressive at right wing-back and Taylor Perry netting a penalty in the shoot-out.
Nuno said of his young stars: "The squad, we're still building it, the boys will always be back ups.
"We're happy with how they performed, they helped us, it was important they had minutes to help the first team squad.
"It's a building process. they still have to develop and improve a lot.
"We go side by side with them, trying to build better players for the future."
The Premier League Asia Trophy is the second pre-season trophy Wolves have won under Nuno, after their success in the Uhrencup last summer.
"The winning mentality is building on a daily basis, you can't expect the game to build that, it's a daily basis, going to each and every training session trying to improve," Nuno added.
"This is how you build that mentality."
