The hosts began the day with only goal difference keeping them out the play-offs.

But Slaven Bilic's side had too much for them and have now taken a mightily impressive 13 points from their last five games.

Here we rate how the players performed at Ashton Gate.

Sam Johnstone

The goalkeeper made a decent stop to tip over a fierce Nakhi Wells strike from distance. Johnstone also kicked well and got his decision-making spot on when it came to punching or catching crosses into the box. Overall, though, he didn't have an awful lot to do. 7

Dara O’Shea

Another very assured display from the defender who you'd never think is new to this right-back role. O'Shea made several well-timed challenges, was strong in the air and also comfortable in possession. Hugely unlucky to be booked for what looked a great tackle on Niclas Eliasson. 8

Ahmed Hegazi

Restored to the side at the expense of Kyle Bartley having impressed in training, Hegazi was a calming and steady presence at the heart of the defence. Won his physical duel with Famara Diedhiou and helped keep Wells in check. 8

Semi Ajayi

Outstanding against Forest, the Nigerian international continued that form here with yet another classy display. Excellent at anticipating danger before it arrives, Ajayi read the game superbly. When he did have to make tackles, though, they were timed excellently. 8

Conor Townsend

What a February it's been for the full-back who seems to grow in stature with every game. Townsend, yet again, proved himself to be an incredibly reliable defender. He also worked tirelessly for the cause and combined well with Callum Robinson. 8

Romaine Sawyers

For 76 minutes, Sawyers found pockets of space and moved the ball well in Albion's midfield. But you can't put your hand on another player's neck and he knows that. That action - and Sawyers' subsequent reaction - was completely out of character. And he'll be missed while he serves his ban. 5

Jake Livermore

It tells you everything you need to know that Slaven Bilic described this game as 'Jake's win' with the Albion skipper absolutely sensational. Livermore won tackles he had no right to win, had a huge hand in Albion's first two goals and dragged his team up the pitch by pressing high and playing with the right amounts of intensity and aggression. He is everything you could possibly want in a captain. 10

Filip Krovinovic

The Croatian was full of energy in the middle of the park and kept Albion ticking over with his intelligent use of the ball. A steady overall showing, Krovinovic didn't influence the game as much as he has in recent weeks but still played a key role in an excellent team performance. 7

Matheus Pereira

Another impressive display from the Brazilian magician who sparked panic in Bristol City's defence every time he got on the ball. Again given the freedom to drift in from the right, his flicks, tricks and one-touching passing gave Albion's attack real conviction. As is often the case, Pereira's workrate was also excellent. 8

Callum Robinson

At first glance, it looked as though his goal had an element of good fortune about it. But Robinson actually produced a very clever header after initially seeing a low drive blocked by Daniel Bentley. Bright and lively throughout, he saw another effort saved following a neat one-two with Robson-Kanu. 7

Hal Robson-Kanu

Yet another outstanding performance from the striker who led the line magnificently. Robson-Kanu's link-up play was excellent. He also scored two clever goals – the first of which was a poacher's effort and the second a cracking finish with the outside of his boot. 9
