A spectacular strike from Jake Livermore was enough to seal the points at the KCOM Stadium – with the result ensuring the Baggies remain top of the Championship heading into the international break.

In what was a different type of display from Slaven Bilic's side, the likes of Furlong, Matt Phillips and Conor Townsend had to curb their attacking instincts to shackle a Hull side who are very effective on the counter-attack.

And Furlong felt Albion's work rate and organisation fully warranted all three points.

“We set out to do what we did – win the game, he said.

“To do that with a clean sheet as well, that’s all we needed to do, so I’m very pleased.

“Sometimes you come away from home and you get dragged into how other teams want to play. We came out on top and we took our chance when we needed to.

"We like to control games, and at home we can do that because it’s our place and teams kind of let us play.

"But against different opposition at different grounds you have to be resilient and we did that. It was a good result."

Furlong admitted Albion's players are brimming with confidence and looking forward to returning to action after the international break.

"It's massive," the defender said when asked how high confidence is in the camp.

"The boys are sticking together and riding it out.

"No-one gets too ahead of themselves after, before or during the game.

"Hull was a nice result to take into the international break."

Furlong was also full of praise for Livermore whose goal capped a man-of-the match performance.

"I've seen him do that a couple of times in training," the full-back added.

"He had a great game."
