Walsall 3-2 Northampton - Player ratings

Liam Keen rates the Walsall players after a tremendous comeback victory against Northampton Town.

Published

LIAM ROBERTS

Although Roberts was partially at fault for the second goal, where he could have been stronger in coming to claim the ball, overall he had a good game. His highlight was the second-half save to deny Callum Morton at 2-1. 7

SHAY FACEY

Alongside the rest of the team, Facey struggled in the first half and offered almost nothing going forward. He started the second-half well with an assist early on and his confidence grew. 7

DAN SCARR

Scarr was pretty solid throughout the game, but his passing let him down – which has been an issue this season. However he gets a good mark for his second-half dominance. The Cobblers couldn't get past him. 8

MAT SADLER

Sadler and Scarr form a pretty formidable partnership at the back, although many agree they are better in a two, rather than a three. Again, his second-half was impressive and he almost got among the goals himself. 8

ZAK JULES

In the last two games Jules probably hasn't taken his chance how he would have liked to. Early on in this fixture he looked uncharacteristically nervous on the ball. He also played a part in both Northampton goals. 6

CAMERON PRING

After two impressive performances, Pring was slightly below par in this fixture. He didn't have the same energy going forward and could have done a bit better for the first Northampton goal. 6

NATHAN SHERON

At times Sheron was doing exactly what he was there to do, put tough tackles in and win aerial duels in the middle of the park. He was rightly taken off however, to allow the creative sparks to come on. 6

LIAM KINSELLA

In the first-half the game seemed to be passing Kinsella by and he looked like a passenger. But in the second-half he came alive and looked his normal self – winning the ball back and sparking attacks. 7

STUART SINCLAIR

As with Sheron, Sinclair didn't have a particularly bad game, but it was nothing to shout about. He did, however, get lost between the lines at times as Northampton passed the ball well. 6

JOSH GORDON

Gordon was isolated in the first-half but worked hard, as usual. In the second-half he took his goal well and saw more of the ball, meaning he earned another impressive rating again. 8

ELIJAH ADEBAYO

This was easily Adebayo's best 90 minutes in a Walsall shirt, he was marvellous. While isolated in the first-half he created chances on his own and in the second he was unplayable at times. 9

SUBS: McDonald (for Jules 56) 8, Guthrie (for Sheron 56) 7, Holden (for Sinclair 65) 8.

Subs not used: Rose, Norman, Nolan, Lavery.
