Darrell Clarke pleased with 'resilient' Walsall
Walsall manager Darrell Clarke was pleased with his side's resilient performance in the 0-0 draw with Newport County on a 'difficult surface' in south Wales.
The lacklustre 90 minutes, in which the Saddlers failed to register a shot on target, was played on a wet and muddy Rodney Parade pitch, which is shared by Welsh rugby team Dragons.
And while Clarke admitted it wasn't the most exciting game, he was happy with the point his side picked up on the road.
“It was an absolute classic and I can’t wait to watch it back," he joked.
“We knew what it would be like coming here, a difficult surface on a difficult windy day.
“I picked a team to get us a good result, a strong resilient team.
“I thought there was a couple of moments in that first half where we could have looked after the final pass.
“We were in a few times but it’s a tough place to play.
“It wasn’t a classic but it’s four points in two away games, which is something positive to build on.
"It's a different game with a different project and I knew we'd have to defend a lot of balls coming into our box through long throws, corners and set-plays."
