The 19-year-old’s time at the Southern League Central Division club was due to end tomorrow, but he instead travelled with Walsall for their away fixture at Salford City on Saturday.

The club have now confirmed that he has been recalled early as the Saddlers look to bolster their squad.

Several first team players have been struck with injury in recent weeks, including striker Elijah Adebayo and with Rory Gaffney unable to play against his parent club at the weekend, Candlin was with the squad for the Salford game but didn’t make the bench.

And manager Darrell Clarke said Candlin has returned to the Saddlers to increase the club’s squad numbers.

“He’s had a mixed loan at Nuneaton to be honest,” he said.

“It was just to get the numbers back really, with (Rory) Gaffney ineligible and (Elijah) Adebayo’s injury.

“Just getting the numbers up.

“The way I see it with Mitch, is that he’s come back off a hit or miss loan.

“We recalled him and tried to get him before Saturday but it wasn’t to be.

“Like any of the young players he’s with us and we want to develop our young lads for the future of the club.”
