Stourbridge play-off clash in doubt

Confusion reigns over whether Stourbridge will face Alvechurch in the Southern League Central play-offs.

An FA inquiry has been launched after Stratford Town, who also made the play-offs, were alleged to have fielded an ineligible player during the course of the season.

Stratford’s play-off match against King’s Lynn Town was postponed yesterday.

And it is understood the FA were also considering postponing Stour’s clash with Alvechurch so both games can take place on the same day. But last night Stourbridge officials were working to get the game on – with the War Memorial Ground scheduled to be hosting cricket on Saturday.

Kings Lynn chairman Stephen Cleeve though insisted both games should take place at the same time.

“The whole affair stinks of incompetence,” he said.

“The situation with our play-off games is farcical – the lads deserve to be treated fairly and be given the same rest periods as the other semi-finalists. Aanything else favours the other finalists and gives them an advantage.”
