The Boro started well early in the tie with both Joe Cuff and Jake Charles seeing their efforts denied by goalkeeper Peter Crook.

However, the hosts were ahead after 14 minutes when Paddy Lane saw his shot deflect home.

The Boro tried to respond but found themselves two goals down through a wonder strike from Grant Roberts after 35 minutes.

Rangers’ afternoon went from bad to worse before the break when Tom Pratt looked to seal the points with a third goal.

The Boro gave themselves a chance of a comeback with a goal on the 63rd minute through substitute Ben Mills.

However, Platt looked to have secured the victory when he restored their three goals advantage with a curled shot into the top corner.

Rangers had other ideas and Charles pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before Sim Thandi finished an excellent effort to set up a grandstand finish.

However, United secured the win with a fifth goal through Adam O’Reily in injury time.
