Yates is returning to Harriers, who he played for twice and managed between 2006 and 2009.

He takes over from chairman Colin Gordon, who was in temporary charge of the team after the club parted ways with Neil McFarlane earlier this month.

Yates has managed Cheltenham, Crawley, Macclesfield and Solihull Moors since his last sting as Harriers boss, and is keen for the team to “finish the season properly”.

Kidderminster are currently ninth in National League North, two points outside of the play-off spots.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Yates said: “I am delighted to be able to come in and help.

“This is a proper football club and hopefully we can finish the season properly.

“I want to put my stamp on it for the remainder of the season and we’ll see what happens.

“We are where we are, and I can’t do anything about the last 28 games, but I’ve come into a club that’s two points outside the play-offs.

“Teams have got a game in hand perhaps, but we’ve got 14 games to try and, ultimately, get in amongst it.

“There are a lot of good players here and it is a club close to my heart – I want to come in and put my stamp on it for the remainder of the season and we’ll see what happens.”
