Tyrone Mings: Aston Villa must learn lessons from Wolves defeat

The England international, who skippered the visiting team at Molineux in the absence of Jack Grealish, felt Dean Smith’s men paid the price for “not being at the races” during the opening period of the 2-1 reverse.

Wolves deservedly went ahead through Ruben Neves four minutes before the break and though Villa improved in the second period, Raul Jimenez made the game safe with six minutes remaining before Trezeguet grabbed a last-gasp consolation.

Mings said: “Hopefully you won’t see many more performances like that (first-half). It couldn’t get much worse and second half was better.

“It’s difficult to put a finger on it without looking back on it. I just didn’t think we were at the races - first contacts, second contacts, any 50/50s it didn’t seem like we were in for them. It was frustrating but in the second half we were better.

“All we can do is work to put things right. You can’t be super low after every loss and super high after every win.

“It’s a long season. We’ll try to maintain a level of consistency in our mood around the training ground and all we can do is work to put it right.”

Mings is one of several players who will be away on international duty with Villa not returning to Premier League action until they host Newcastle a fortnight today.

“That’s always the danger going into an international break,” he said. “You always want to play the next game as quick as possible.

“We’ve got a few things to learn and a few things to out right so if anything it gives us more time to work on the training pitch.”
