Wednesfield are fired up to tackle high-flying Bewdley Town

Joint boss John Griffiths believes Wednesfield can get something when they host second-placed Bewdley Town tomorrow – as long as the rain holds off.

The side managed by Griffiths and Dan Watkiss have not done as well as they would have liked in the West Midlands Premier so far, sitting 15th out of the league's 18 teams.

But they beat Chelmsley Town 2-1 in the Birmingham Midweek Floodlight Cup on Tuesday – Jake Griffiths and Ellis Blakemore the scorers.

That was particularly pleasing for Griffiths, who insists a couple of recent postponements at their Amos Lane home – because of the weather – have made it difficult to build momentum.

"We're 11 games into the season and haven't picked up as many points as we would've liked," he said.

"But we haven't played many games as of late because of the weather, and we looked a bit rusty last weekend because of that (losing 3-0 at Dudley Town).

"We got a good win in the cup on Tuesday, though, and that boosts our confidence going into the game against Bewdley.

"Fingers crossed, the weather holds off and we can get it played as I think it'll be a good game.

"The last one against them was a bit strange as they won 4-0 but didn't deserve to win by that much.

"We'll be positive-minded. I'm relatively confident we can get something from it."

Wednesfield are 15th with 10 points from 11 games, but they do have games in hand on a lot of the teams above them.

And Griffiths is aiming to rise up the table soon – but he is being realistic as well.

"With the league we're in, there's a lot of powerful teams with good budgets, so it's difficult," he added.

"But I was proud with how the lads did on Tuesday, they played really well.

"We're thinking mid-table with a bit of a cup run, so fingers crossed that happens."

Also in the division, bottom club Cradley Town are hosting Wolverhampton Sporting, who are seventh.

Dudley Sports are heading to Smethwick Rangers, Dudley Town are going to table-toppers Shifnal Town, and Bilston Town are travelling to Worcester Raiders.

Darlaston Town, Wolverhampton Casuals and Black Country Rangers are also on the road – at Wem Town, Pershore Town and AFC Bridgnorth respectively.
