Known as the ‘FA Cup of darts’, the UK Open hosts qualifiers across the country each year, with the final stages at Butlins Minehead in March.

And Sherrock – who made history as the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Championships in December – booked her place by breezing through the field at Rileys Wolverhampton.

Writing on Twitter, Sherrock said: “I’m so happy... thank you to everyone who was so supportive and nice, so pleased.”

Rileys Wolverhampton hosted 204 players hoping to reach Minehead, with Sherrock among four women.

She whitewashed James ‘Ruthless’ Richardson 4-0 in the first board final before going on to see off seasoned player Paul Rowley in the semi-finals thanks to numerous 140s and 100s.

Sherrock lost the first leg of her final against Stuart White, but this kicked her into gear as she reeled off five consecutive legs to book her place in the finals.

The Milton Keynes ace, 25, is set to make more history this month when she becomes the first woman to play in the Premier League – she is the chosen ‘challenger’ in the field for the event at Nottingham on February 13.
