Yozza battling elbow issue

Darts ace Jamie Hughes hopes the injury that affected him during his European Championship exit won’t impact on his first tilt at the PDC world title.

The 33-year-old – nicknamed Yozza – has had a stellar first year in the PDC, rising to number 57 in the world.

But he was knocked out of the European Championships in the first round yesterday, losing 6-1 to Jermaine Wattimena.

And Hughes later revealed on Twitter that he has been battling an elbow problem.

He wrote: “Tried my best against Jermaine, best player won. Unfortunately I’ve had bursitis in my elbow for a good while. (I’m going to the) doctors on Tuesday looking to get sorted in time for the Worlds.”

Hughes, twice a BDO World Championship semi-finalist, only gained his PDC card in January’s qualifying school, but won the Czech Open in June – beating Simon Whitlock and Stephen Bunting along the way.
