The former England batsman and ex-Bears skipper has been linked following a season ruined by injury at Edgbaston.

The 37-year-old plans to continue his playing career next summer.

The tournament takes place in South Africa early next year and reports suggest Bell has beaten more experienced candidates to land the role.

Elsewhere, former South Africa batsman Gary Kirsten has emerged as favourite to take over as England’s men’s coach following the departure of Trevor Bayliss at the end of the drawn Ashes series last month.

Kirsten is expected to meet ECB director of cricket Ashley Giles soon.
