First-team coach Jim Troughton hailed an “incredible effort” from Warwickshire despite them missing out on victory against Nottinghamshire.

The Bears were denied a second straight victory in County Championship Division One after Notts batted out the final day at Edgbaston.

Having resumed on the last morning on 116 for one, needing 294 to avoid an innings defeat, the visitors ended the final day on 354 for eight.

That was despite a mid-afternoon wobble which saw them lost four wickets in the space of nine overs, after second-wicket pair Ben Duckett (140, 237 balls, 19 fours, two sixes) and Chris Nash (85, 216 balls, 11 fours) had added 199 in 66 overs.

Warwickshire skipper Jeetan Patel took four wickets but could not force the win.

Troughton said: “It was an incredible effort from 11 guys. From one to 11 they have all contributed and really showed a brand of cricket they should take pride in and hopefully can produce for the rest of the season.”
