Tom Jones is aiming to call the tune again this weekend as continues his quest for national glory.

The Lions BC teenager will step into the ring in Bridlington on Sunday for a Development Championships quarter-final bout.

Brandon Brierley, from West Yorkshire gym Training Cave, stands in Jones’ way of a place in the last four in the under 57kg category.

Jones booked his place in the quarters with an impressive victory against Sam Ledwith at Stoke’s Jubilee Centre last weekend.

“You can definitely see Tom is making progress with each fight he has,” said Lions coach Kev Dillon.

“The lad he beat last weekend was a really good lad, and he gave him a standing eight count in the second round on his way to a unanimous decision.

“Tom has had seven bouts now and won them all. There won’t be many lads in this competition with a record that strong.

“He is a naturally strong lad and he makes things look simple. He is very fit and has a good engine.

“He gets behind his jab until he finds his range and then gets going. He has got a bit of everything.”

Tom Jones won today on a unanimous decision at the pre-quarters of the Development Championships in Stoke. He’s now through to the quarter finals next Sunday. I don’t have the details of who or where yet but will let you know later in the week.
