The equipment was left hanging off the site of the vehicle at around 12.40pm on Wednesday on the A34 Queensway roundabout, near the junction of the A518.

Recovery specialists, along with members of the highways team from Staffordshire County Council, were today on the scene as it was being recovered.

A crane has lifted the machinery which will be put on the back of the lorry safely before it can be moved off – with the road closed.

A spokesman for Staffordshire County Council said: "Highways crews continue to deal with an incident to recover heavy machinery which has come off a lorry on the A34, Queensway at the junction with North Walls in Stafford.

"The road remains closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area until the recovery is complete."

It is currently not known how long it will take for the road to reopen.
