Bosses at the McDonald's restaurant, in Birmingham New Road, have applied to Dudley Council to enable trading for 24 hours a day.

The drive-thru restaurant currently opens seven days a week, between the hours of 6am and 11pm.

Residents and councillors in the area have voiced their concerns, stating it would blight the area and increase anti-social behaviour.

But McDonald's said the move could create up to 15 full and part-time jobs in the area, if the amended hours are approved.

One unnamed resident, who lives off Birmingham New Road, sent an objection to the council stating "living near McDonald's has always been a problem".

They said: "We have to put up with late night noise of people congregating in the car park, racing very noisy cars up to Bank Street, making illegal u-turns, driving down to Ivyhouse Lane, making u-turns and back to McDonald's. This can continue for hours.

"I pick up litter on a daily basis and while the council provide litter collectors for McDonald's side of the road, no one clears litter on the opposite side, especially the bus stop."

Another added: "Extended opening hours means, more than likely, anti-social behaviour will increase."

Coseley Councillor Sue Ridney said: "This application has been raised before and was greeted by objections from neighbours both adjacent and from across the Birmingham New Road. Residents have already been in touch to say that their views have not changed with regard to noise, disturbance, litter, light pollution etc."

A spokesman for McDonald's said: "We can confirm that we have submitted an application to extend the opening hours at our Coseley restaurant.

"We look forward to working with the council on our plans and creating up to 15 full and part-time jobs within the local community.”

Residents can comment on the application on Dudley Council's website.
