The former Coniston House, on Chapel Ash Island, in Wolverhampton, is being turned into 42 glamorous flats by developer Blackacre Limited.

The details have only been out for a few days, yet local property experts say they have 'never seen' such a quick response.

The old Coniston House

Details and photos of the new development, named the Belvedere Residence, have only just appeared for sale on Rightmove, and estate agents Connells in Wolverhampton, the firm marketing the development, has confirmed there is 'a lot of interest'.

Senior local director Lee Cooke said: "I've been selling lots of apartments in Wolverhampton for more than 20 years now and I've never seen such a fast response as this.

How Coniston House has been transformed

"We had already sold 30 per cent before work had even started. We are absolutely chuffed.

"It's nice to see a large mix of retirees, first time buyers and an overspill from Birmingham too. As in Birmingham these would go for about £250,000 - £300,000 whereas in Wolverhampton we're starting them at £99,000.

"So these are selling very fast for Wolverhampton, it just shows that with the train station redevelopment, with the Westside redevelopment, people still want to live in Wolverhampton, which is so good.

"That area itself, in Chapel Ash, it's a bit of a hot spot at the moment."

Coniston House has been empty for two years, last used by 500 Marston’s office workers before they moved to the company’s new headquarters over the road.

It had been used by the now defunct Wolverhampton Primary Care Trust and Bentley Homes before that.

Belvedere Residence is expected to be complete by early 2019, with apartments ranging from £99,000 for a one bed to £145,000 for a large two bed.

The properties include lift access to upper floors and remote, secure parking.

Connells have said the properties would be the perfect chance to invest in the 'up and coming and improving Wolverhampton city centre."

Writing on the Rightmove website, it said: "With an abundance of local shops, eateries, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Sainsbury's and many other retail outlets, bars and restaurants just a stones throw away making these apartments an ideal choice for retirees, investors or first time buyers.

"Wolverhampton train station and metro offers fantastic links to Birmingham City with further rail links to London. Wolverhampton University is also just a stone's throw away."
