Wyre Forest General Election 2019 result: Cosy win for Garnier

The former international trade minister secured 32,960 votes, enough for a majority of 21,413 over Labour’s Robin Lunn.

• Robin Lunn, Labour - 11,547

• Shazu Miah, Liberal Democrat - 4,081

• John Davis, Green - 1,973

• Turnout - 64.8 per cent

Mr Garnier has now held the seat for the last three general elections – having first won it from the independent Health Concern candidate in 2010.

He has pledged to attract businesses to the district to ensure long-term jobs, as well as improved training for youngsters.

Mr Lunn, a councillor in Worcestershire, had been aiming to be the first Labour candidate to win the seat since David Lock triumphed all the way back in 1997.

He had pushed himself as the anti-austerity candidate, vowing to end inequalities in Wyre Forest.

Liberal Democrat candidate Shazu Miah, who is chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, campaigned as “the only voice” for people who want to remain in the EU.

The turnout was 65.1 per cent, a slight reduction from the 2017 snap election figure.
