Faces nightclub was demolished in 2019 and has since been cleared for development

Jane Stevenson said she was "extremely frustrated" after it emerged work on the City Learning Quarter (CLQ) had been delayed due to issues relating to "third party consents".

The £50m scheme centres around the old Faces nightclub site between Old Hall Street and Bilston Street. It was cleared for development last year but work is yet to start.

Wolverhampton North East MP Ms Stevenson said the constant delays to projects meant that residents were not seeing the benefits of the Government investment "pouring" into the city.

The city council said it was waiting for the Government to sort out an "outstanding legal/financial situation" before proceeding with the scheme.

The CLQ will see a new Wolverhampton College campus built in place of Faces. It has been backed by around £45m in government cash.

It comes after lengthy delays to projects including the Metro extension and the Civic halls revamp, while the controversial pedestrianisation of Victoria Street overran by several months.
