Heavy rain in recent days had caused the river to swell with water starting to flow over its banks.

But concerns over further flooding have now subsided allowing the Environment Agency to remove barriers on Wednesday.

The Bewdley barriers at Beales Corner, which was put in place on Sunday, were being taken down.

And further barriers on Severnside would be removed on Thursday as river levels were expected to fall further.

The levels in Bewdley peaked at 12.8ft (3.9m) triggered by heavy rainfall in Wales.

River levels also peaked at Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury.

Environment Agency manager, Dave Throup, said: "It's the highest level we have seen for about three years here, but nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary.

“We are protecting probably about 500 homes and businesses at the moment."
