Evie-Grace Ward, from Castlecroft, wrote the note – complete with a drawing of a rainbow – to show her appreciation amid the coronavirus.

Jessica Starling, Evie's mother, said the youngster had been drawing rainbow posters before turning her attention to writing the piece.

The 31-year-old, who lives with partner Steve Ward, aged 36, and almost three-week-old Nancy Ward, said: "She came into the lounge and she said she had written a letter for NHS staff to thank them for all they've done.

"She said they were 'very brave' and she has a good understanding – we've told her as much as we can in a child-friendly way – and she's really appreciative of what they're doing.

The letter sent to New Cross Hospital.

"I'm trying to look after a newborn and entertain her at the same time and for her to sit there and write the letter quietly – off her own bat – I was very proud.

"I'm very proud of her – she's acknowledging the situation, which is a good thing, and we posted the letter on Sunday."

The letter, which features a rainbow and has a "Stay Safe" drawing, said: "To all NHS staff, thank you for looking after the poorly people with coronavirus.

"You are very brave in this situation. I love that your [sic] fighting hard on this.

"Love from Evie-Grace Ward, thank you."

Ms Starling, who is originally from Telford, said it was an emotional time for the family due to the lockdown.

"It's very emotional – it's not the start to Nancy's life we wanted [with coronavirus] but as long and she's safe – and we're all safe – we can cope," she said.

"It's quite overwhelming that we haven't been out as a family yet – we feel like we've been robbed of that, but we'll be able to do it soon.

"I think she wanted to show her appreciation. If we get a response, then that's amazing but we think it might not be yet – there's a lot for them to do.

"I think if someone opens it and smiles, or if they put it on the staff noticeboard, that'll be really nice."
