Neil Campbell will be joined by fellow members of CrossFit Wolverhampton for the fundraiser on August 24 from 8am to 8pm with the doors open to anyone else who wants to get involved or just show their support.

The 37-year-old, from Walsall, said: “From the age of 10 onwards, I had very poor health – always prone to injuries and illnesses.

“I was on dialysis four days a week and I weighed seven stone.

“I was skin and bone and unable to do any type of physical activity. I was 17 when I got the call about my kidney transplant. One minute I was in sixth form at school, and the next I was lying in an operating theatre.

“My life changed dramatically after my surgery, I increased my fitness and I was so glad to find CrossFit. I have never looked back.”

The 12-hour ‘Wod-Athon’, will consist of intense workouts on the hour, every hour. A Wod is a Workout of the Day (WOD).

CrossFit consists of classes incorporating running, rowing, body weight movements, weightlifting, core, strength training and mobility.

CrossFit Wolverhampton founder Mitchell Adams, 27, said: “We currently have 14 people, including Neil who will be taking part.

“It will include weights and in-timed exercises. We are keen to support Neil and are hoping to raise a lot of money."

The event will be coached by Mitchell, who founded the gym in 2013, and he is also keen to get more awareness for the sport.

He added: “CrossFit has had a bad rep in the past. We want to showcase that anyone can do it.”

Anyone wishing to take part can pop into the gym for a sponsorship form, or simply just turn up on the day to offer support for the athletes.

The event will take place at the CrossFit Gym, in Waddens Brook Lane. It is in aid of Transplant Sport UK and Live Life Give Life.
