Simon Morgan-Smith will be joined by 10 others as they bid to raise money for Promise Dreams.

It is the sixth year that the group has undertaken this challenge, having raised £12,500 last year for Compton Care.

They will set off from Simon's home in Wolverhampton on July 28 before cycling 180 miles to Marton Mere Caravan Park in Blackpool.

Simon, aged 46, from Wolverhampton, said: "We are all excited for this. It will take us two days to cycle up there, 110 miles on the first day and just over 60 on the second day."

Each participant will be riding on an expensive road bike with each built of carbon fibre and costing thousands of pounds.

"We have invested quite heavily," he said.

He continued: "We hope to raise £10,000 this year and we will hand a cheque over in November. We will be holding a charity event at the Goodyear Pavillion Club before then to raise more funds."

Simon says they started out raising money for cancer charities having been diagnosed with the disease himself at 38.

He had testicular cancer but got the all clear at 40.

He said: "Ever since then we have been doing events each year."

Simon is a Wolves fan and is hoping to get club legend Steve Bull involved with his fundraising.
