Parklands Court Nursing Home's gates were decorated by residents and staff ahead of the event on November 7.

And on the day there was an afternoon tea and a 1940s singer, as well as a visit from MP Eddie Hughes.

Manager Yvonne Russon said: "The gates have all been decorated for Remembrance.

"We decided to acknowledge the war effort in Walsall and say thank you.

"We had families stopping and taking pictures of the gates and buses slowing down to see them.

"The families said they had never seen anything like it.

"The residents did some painting and helped with the poppies and our activities team and other staff supported them, so it was all ready for the 1940s day.

"They did a great job and MP Eddie Hughes came to visit on the day too.

"And on Sunday the parade came down the street and saw the gates. Some of the residents were in tears, it's just been very moving and I've been very honoured to be part of the team here.

"There was also a 1940s singer and some of the residents got up dancing, they had a little service as well."
