Two cars badly damaged as skip truck overturns near Walsall Academy

A skip truck overturned and two cars were badly damaged in a crash which saw two people taken to hospital this morning.

A taxi was damaged and a truck overturned in Bloxwich

A stretch of Lichfield Road in Bloxwich has been closed after the crash happened near Walsall Academy at around 6.30am.

Five people were treated at the scene, near the junction with Selmans Hill, and two were taken to hospital but nobody is understood to have been seriously injured.

The circumstances around the crash are not clear but three cars and a skip truck are believed to have been involved.

Two hours after the crash the skip loader remained on its side surrounded by debris, while a badly-damaged Mazda taxi was on the driveway of a home next to a broken fence.

Police and highways workers have been at the scene, with a cordon still in place at 9am.

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 6.36am to reports of a lorry that had overturned.

"We had two ambulances on the scene treating five patients in total.

"We are conveying two patients to hospital, one man and one woman, who are both going to Walsall Manor Hospital.

"The woman, who is in her 20s and was the driver of a car, was out of her vehicle when crews arrived.

"She had relatively minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

"We've conveyed a man to hospital as well, who is in his 40s.

"He was the driver of the lorry that had overturned and was out of the vehicle when crews arrived.

"He was given treatment on the scene for injuries not believed to be serious."
