This is the damage caused after a major fire ripped through a recycling plant and tip in Walsall.

Blackened walls outside the factory unit show the ferocity of the flames as crews dampen down.

Firefighters remained at Fryers Road Civic Amenity site and Recycling Centre, in Bloxwich, today.

Up to 70 firefighters from across the Midlands were at the tip at the height of the blaze.

The centre was closed to the public today with residents directed to the borough's other tip in Aldridge.

A total of ten crews arrived to fight the flames on Sunday night, with around half still present on Monday morning.

Firefighters were still pumping water from a underground source opposite the plant, advising drivers that it remained closed to business.

Express & Star's journalist Jessica Labhart reported from the scene

Plumes of smoke were still visible from the plant, though the smoke was no longer thick and black.

Crews were using a hydraulic platform to continue to douse the flames.

Angle grinders were used to cut entrance points into the shutters of the plant, as crews had to turn off the electricity in the centre.

Representatives from Walsall Council were also present at the site of the fire yesterday, watching as fire crews blasted the remaining hotspots with water.

The council advised that the tip is shut and advised residents that the alternative site in Aldridge is likely to be busy.

Businesses close to the plant remained open, though drivers were urged to travel slowly through the site over the water pipes leading into the plant.

The cul-de-sac is home to Leamore Enterprise Park and consists of several mixed-use units.

The cause of the fire is not yet known with an investigation due to commence in the coming days.
