Two taken to hospital after Aldridge crash

Two men were taken to hospital after a crash between a van and refuse lorry in Aldridge.

The crash happened on the A452 Chester Road at its junction with Birch Lane at about 7am today.

The men, a driver and passenger from the van, were assessed by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service before being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

Firefighters were also at the scene and the road was closed as a result of the crash, causing tailbacks in the morning rush hour.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called by police at 7.02am to the junction of Birch Lane and Chester Road, Aldridge, to reports of a crash, involving a van and a refuse lorry.

"Two ambulances attended and crews assessed three patients. The driver and passenger from the van, two men, were assessed by ambulance staff on scene before being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further checks. The driver of the lorry was uninjured."
