Penkridge Roundtable's annual Santa Dash took place on Sunday marking the start of their annual sleigh tour which sees Santa visiting the area over 15 evenings.

A sea of red dashed around the one-mile course around Penkridge to help raise funds for local causes.

A spokesman for the event said: "As 11am approached, the 150 strong sea of red prepared for the one-mile course.

"Launched by a ‘Santa-supported’ countdown, the leaders soon took off at a heady pace, closely followed by an array of pushchairs, scooters, runners and walkers.

"Young and old, short and tall, all participated with smiles on their faces and beards on their chin. With marshals on every corner, the route was safely and speedily enjoyed by all. Everyone received a congratulatory round of applause upon completion of the course as well as a certificate specially signed by Santa.

"With all the funds raised going to worthy local causes, a series of presentations were made to groups and individuals from the local community including local schools and The Salvation Army. Additionally, a Presentational Plaque was awarded to the staff at The Star in recognition of all the help provided to Roundtable over the last few years."
