The bid to build 37 houses, off Castle Street, has been submitted to Stafford Borough Council.

It comes after controversial plans for 43 homes on the same piece of land were withdrawn earlier this year.

A total of 40 letters of objection had been submitted over the plans, and just one in support.

In March 2018 plans for up to 80 new homes went on public display in the town.

It was proposed to build up to 60 new homes and a new public car park in the first phase, with a further 20 homes and a country park in the second.

But the number of houses planned for the first phase of the Castle Street development was later reduced in plans put forward to Stafford Borough Council in February.

And the proposal no longer included a car park.

The new plans will be considered by councillors in the coming weeks.

The scheme would then need the backing of county planners.
