'It looks really bad!' Residents describe 'big black clouds' of smoke as blaze ravages Cannock warehouse
A resident living near a fire-hit warehouse in Cannock has spoken of seeing "big black clouds" of smoke from her bedroom window.
Fire crews rushed to the blaze on Cley Road, Norton Canes, at around 6.15am on Thursday.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze started at Super Smart Services - a distribution warehouse "which contains a variety of different materials for delivery".
Plumes of smoke could be seen travelling for miles, with people reporting sightings from Lichfield, Wolverhampton and even further afield.
Police cordoned off nearby roads as firefighters worked to tackle the flames, as businesses were evacuated and residents were urged to close their windows.
A security guard who works next to the affected building said he and everyone else on the road was evacuated.
Terry Kingsley told the Express & Star: "The fire looked like it started about 6.14am - by 6.20am the whole building was in flames.
"I work in a building right next to the place on fire so I managed to get a good couple shots before everyone on the road was asked to evacuate."
