A huge gas explosion which has closed a Cannock street for several days is being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services cordoned off a section of Cannock Road in Chadsmoor yesterday after reports of a 'massive boom' above the Select & Save shop.

On arriving they also discovered a fire at the back of the property.

Detectives from Staffordshire Police are appealing for the public to come forward with any information after revealing the explosion is believed to be suspicious.

No one was injured and one man was treated by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service for shock.

The road is expected to be closed over the next few days.
