The A41 outside The Hawthorns was shut in both directions between Middlemore Road and Halfords Lane for about eight hours yesterday after parts of roof material were blown into the road.

Firefighters secured sections of the 25m by 50m warehouse with rope, and a structural engineer deemed it safe until a permanent fix could be carried out.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area yesterday afternoon and evening, causing disruption into rush hour.
