The crash happened just before 3pm today near Tesco Extra and New Square Shopping Centre in West Bromwich.

The hatchback the man and woman were in was left with severe front-end damage and oil could be seen leaking from the vehicle.

National Express buses are being diverted while emergency services deal with the crash.

One ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene in Cronehills Linkway at 2.58pm, Murray MacGregor, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

He said: "We were called to reports of a car and a signpost in collision, with oil leaking from the car.

"A lady in her 50s, the front seat passenger, was taken to Sandwell Hospital for further assessment with injuries not believed to be serious.

"The car had collided with a signpost.

"The second patient was a man in his 60s who was also taken to Sandwell Hospital."
