Smethwick pool closed off after geese deaths
A pool at a Smethwick park where dozens of geese have been dropping dead has been fenced off to the public, council bosses have said.
Sandwell Council said their officers have also removed the dead and sick geese from the pool at Smethwick Hall Park and they are being tested to find out the problem.
It comes after at least 20 Canada geese died in the pool last week, with residents saying other birds looked seriously ill and were suffering.
There have been claims that raw sewage is running into the pool – but a spokesman for Severn Trent Water said the firm had carried out work to improve the quality of the pool and believe the deaths of the birds are unrelated.

Councillor Maria Crompton, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for safer communities, said: "The pool is now fenced off to the public.
“We have removed the dead and sick geese, they are being tested to see what the problem is.
“Severn Trent have conducted water testing and the Environment Agency are doing the same.
“The pool is being secured until we know what the problem is.
“We will be organising a programme of remedial works to improve the pool and resolve any further issues.”
