Mr Spencer was struck by a Ford Transit Tipper van at 6.15am on Thursday, at the junction of Ridgeway Avenue and Hagley Road West.

Nothing could be done to save him and the 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Spencer's family have now paid tribute to him – describing him as "one of the kindest, generous, most sincere people".

In a statement, they said: "Warren was a loving husband and brother, loved by his friends and family and adored by his dog.

“He was always reliable and one of the kindest, generous, most sincere people. He meant a lot to everyone and everyone counted on him.

“Warren enjoyed life to the full, he was hardworking, fun loving and sociable and loved the pub.

“He loved his holidays and had a good sense of humour and this is a huge loss to everyone who knew and loved him.

“We ask if you can respect the family at this sad time to allow us to grieve.”

The van driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released while enquiries continue, a spokesman from West Midlands Police confirmed.
