Arrest made after girl attacked with knife at Halesowen College

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a student was attacked with a knife outside a Black Country college today.

Police and paramedics were called to Halesowen College in Whittingham Road this afternoon after a 16-year-old girl received cuts to her face in an incident outside the main gates.

She was rushed to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The suspect, who the college says is not a student there, was arrested on suspicion of wounding.

He remains in custody while the investigation continues.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding after a girl was attacked with a knife this afternoon.

"Officers were called just after 12.20pm to Halesowen College in Whittingham Road. A 16-year-old victim was left with minor injuries to her face.

"The suspect remains in custody this afternoon and the investigation is continuing."

A spokesperson for Halesowen College said: "We can however confirm that the student was taken to hospital, accompanied by a member of staff.

"We understand that her injury is minor and that she will make a full and speedy recovery.

"We wish her the very best and will fully support her to complete her studies when she returns to college.

"We are aware that there are a number of rumours following the incident and urge anyone with concerns, including students or parents, to contact us directly."
