Stourbridge garage could be demolished and rebuilt

A Stourbridge garage is set to be completely revamped if planners give the green light to proposals.

The car wash could be demolished

The existing Lye (Jet) Service Station and hand wash facility on Dudley Road in Stourbridge could be demolished and replaced with a new facility.

Applicants Tankerford Ltd wants to provide better disabled access and toilets, improved petrol pumps and a new, much bigger modern convenience store – which could possibly be a Co-op store or similar.

The existing hand car wash will be removed but replaced with jet wash facilities for customers.

But the application has received some objections from nearby residents who are concerned about an increase in traffic on an already congested road.

One neighbour also said the new Aldi Supermarket nearby had already resulted in more traffic using this section of the road.

Highways officers have also requested more information on delivery vehicles and parking before they could support the plans.

In their application, Tankerford said: “The application site is a permitted and established service station serving the local community and businesses and all travellers along the main Dudley Road.

“The existing petrol service station was first established in 1968.

“The intention of this plan is to redevelop the site replacing the existing building, to a modern convenience store, (CO-OP or similar), complete with new shop front windows and kiosk facilities approx size will be 220sq m.

“A new disabled toilet facility will be incorporated in the new layout with ramped access to the shop to cater for disabled access.

“The petrol sales and HGV facilities will be upgraded and the forecourt will be replaced with concrete paving.

“The proposed hours are 24 hour operation Monday to Saturday, closing at 11pm on Saturday, with Sunday at 7am to 10pm to re-open at 6am on Monday.

“The existing hand car wash facility will be removed but replaced with a new customer operated jet wash facility.”

Dudley Council planners are currently considering the application.
