Car destroyed in fire in Dudley's High Street

A car was completely destroyed after it caught fire in Dudley's busy High Street.

Eight firefighters were sent to the scene to reports of a car well alight outside an Argos store shortly after 2pm today.

Dramatic photos and video footage from the scene show flames rising from the vehicle in the town centre.

A street sign was also damaged in the fire.

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said: "We received the call at around 2.10pm to reports of a vehicle fire on the road, outside an Argos store. The vehicle was well alight on our arrival and was completely destroyed by the fire.

"Eight firefighters in total were sent to the scene, all from Dudley's fire station.

"There was some damage to a nearby street. We used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to bring the fire under control.

"The fire was out just before 2.30pm."
