Coronavirus: 50 more deaths confirmed in Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham

We brought you the latest as a further 50 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died across the region, bringing the death toll in the area to 1,293.

Of course the full death toll is likely to be much higher with care home coronavirus deaths thought to be under-reported.

It comes as as the Government is set to announce a three-week extension to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Meanwhile a prominent scientist has taken Health Minister Matt Hancock to task for casting doubt on the effectiveness of face masks to fight the spread of coronavirus.

And 99-year-old veteran Captain Tom Moore has now raised more than £12 million by walking 100 lengths of his garden. Incredible.
