Richard Beeken, chief executive at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, believes he has contracted Covid-19.

But he has not been able to confirm this because NHS staff are not being tested.

Mr Beeken is now self-isolating for seven days.

"I haven’t been tested as we aren’t doing staff testing," he told the Express & Star.

"I’ve been told that I almost certainly have it and therefore I have to isolate for a week."

He added: "I feel pretty ropey but I'm okay."

Mr Beeken is still helping colleagues with key strategic decisions from home, he said on Twitter.

So far two people have died at Walsall Manor after contracting Covid-19 while as of Wednesday 46 people in the borough have tested positive.
