Trust that runs New Cross Hospital rated 'good' overall
The trust which runs Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital has been rated "good" overall by the health watchdog.
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the Royal Wolverhampton Trust had a "clear vision" when it came to treating patients. However, the trust was rated "requires improvement" for safety.
The trust, which also runs Cannock Chase Hospital, received the same overall rating as the previous year.
Inspectors found the care offered by the trust was "outstanding" – after positive inspections of both hospital sites.
Staff were praised for emergency care, critical care, services for young people and community services.
But the trust was told it "must ensure all patients who may lack capacity to consent to care and/ or treatment are appropriately assessed", that documentation meets national standards and that medicines and are stored safely.
The CQC also said the trust needed to "ensure staffing levels on medical wards are safe and reduce the risk of patient harm".
Royal Wolverhampton chief executive David Loughton praised staff after the overall positive rating.

“We have seen more of our services move to a rating of good or outstanding and the report outlines this.
“The CQC report highlights many of the ways in which our staff have succeeded in delivering better, more responsive services.
“Our main focus at this organisation is that we are doing everything we can to make sure our patients receive safe care which is high quality, whether they are being treated in one of our hospitals, in a community setting or at home.
“Our staff have worked extremely hard, and continue to do so, in pressurised environments against a back drop of a challenged healthcare system. For this, I want to personally thank every single member of staff.”
Eight of the ten GP practices that have been inspected since joining RWT have also been rated as Good. The remaining two have yet to be inspected by the CQC.
