£42,000 payout for Wolverhampton dental patient who lost four teeth

Esther Douglas, 45, claims she has been left having to have inplants because of the treatment she received.

The Coalway Road Family Dental Practice in Wolverhampton has not admitted liability, but has now paid out the money in an out of court settlement four years after the treatment ended.

Mrs Douglas, a social worker, claims she was left in pain after visits to Dr Dal Sund, Dr Adil Ali Riaz and Dr Rajesh Kumar Beedh at the practice in Penn between June 2009 and September 2015.

She claims treatment for fillings, extraction work and root canal was not carried out properly and that on one occasion she suffered a burn to her lip.

The Dental Law Partnership took on Mrs Douglas’ case in 2015 and it has now reached a settlement with the practice.

Mrs Douglas said she has since had to undergo remedial work at an alternative dentist, including having inplants to replace missing teeth.

She said: “As soon as I saw my new dentist I told him about the problems I’d been experiencing.

"Almost immediately, he told me that three of my teeth were so badly damaged they needed to be extracted and that I’d need dentures to replace them. I couldn’t believe it.

“The whole ordeal has been a nightmare. The pain was terrible. Having my teeth extracted really affected me.

"I’m someone who laughs and smiles a lot, but I became really self-conscious which stopped me laughing as much.

"It impacted my sleep too. I even went to the doctor about it, and was told my problems were down to stress from my dental problems.”

The case was settled when £42,500 was paid out of court this year.

The dentists did not admit liability.

A Coalway Road Family Dental Practice spokeswoman said: “We have no comment to make.”
